Superintendent
Keith S. Burton
Superintendent, Caddo Parish Public Schools
Keith S. Burton serves as the fourteenth superintendent of Caddo Parish Public Schools, bringing more than 33 years of dedicated service to the district. A lifelong educator and leader, Burton began his career in 1992 as a classroom teacher and has since held numerous roles that reflect his passion for student success and educational excellence.
Burton taught history and math for nine years, earning national recognition as Louisiana’s first recipient of the Milken Educator Award. His commitment to inspiring students and improving outcomes led him into school leadership, where he served as both an elementary and middle school principal in Caddo Parish.
In 2013, Burton was appointed Chief Academic Officer for the district, leading major initiatives in curriculum, accountability, and special education. His accomplishments in that role include the launch of the Caddo Teaching Academy and the Caddo Virtual Academy, both designed to expand opportunities and support for educators and students.
Appointed superintendent in October 2024, Burton’s leadership is centered on creating a student-first culture, expanding access to early childhood education, accelerating literacy, and strengthening teacher and principal development. He is also committed to driving innovation and developing transparent solutions to address the district’s most pressing challenges.
Burton’s passion for education is reflected in his own family. His wife, recently retired after 33 years as a classroom educator in Caddo Parish, shares his lifelong commitment to public service. Their children are continuing that legacy—one serving as an assistant principal, another as a teacher, and their daughter recently completing her first year as a kindergarten teacher.
Burton attended Louisiana Tech University and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education from LSU-Shreveport. He later completed a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from LSU-Shreveport and has earned over 45 graduate hours at Centenary College and LSU-Shreveport. In addition to his work in education, Burton is actively involved in the Shreveport-Bossier community, serving on numerous boards and advisory councils, including:
